A book review. You all know how much I admire the Japanese quilters and among them Yoko Saito. When I discovered that Martingale was about to publish a book about one of the most fascinating quilter I know, you can imagine that I was really looking forward to discovering it. It is now available and I can't stop looking at it and all the photos it contains!
It is not a pattern book. It is a coffee table book Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14983276437707717836noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6030683405193215649.post-28461496967756240822018-09-19T12:32:00.001+02:002018-09-19T12:45:37.188+02:00A new project, a new blog ?
The back-to-school frenzy period is now behind and I can find time for quilting and stitching again. The first thing I did was to clean up my sewing room because it motivates me to surround myself with a peaceful atmosphere with all my cherished tools around me. It doesn't stay so tidy for long! When it's messy again, I just look at the photos.... trust me, it works ;-)

We often found one or two of her projects in the magazine Quilt Country. Her quilt company is called Crib Quilt.

Those following me on Instagram know that I am back from a fabulous and amazing trip to Japan. I visited many places : Osaka, Koyasan, Hiroshima; Itsukushima, Kyoto, Kanazawa, Shirakawa-go, Takayama, Hakone and Tokyo.
I have been impressed by what I have seen and about the cleanliness of all the public places. The trains are fast, clean and on time. I discovered Maggie's creations a long time ago and her style, simplicity and authentic creations have always touched my heart.
I met Maggie once in a class in France and made the peapod pincushion. It has been on my blog banner ever since and I can assure you that I have received hundreds of emails asking me about it... Are you looking for a BOM in 2018? I thought I would share with you my experience with the 2017 BOM by Sarah Fielke .
The 2017 BOM is called Down The Rabbit Hole. Sarah Fielke's BOMs are kind of special in the way they work. You have a sketch of the final quilt given but no measurements and the borders and motifs are not drawn to size. But you have an idea of what the quilt will look like at Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14983276437707717836noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6030683405193215649.post-76757785797843020472017-06-10T16:56:00.000+02:002017-07-20T15:53:57.184+02:00Brouage 2017For those not familiar with this name here is some information about this lovely town on the French Atlantic coast :
Brouage was founded in 1555 by Jacques de Pons on the Bay of Biscay facing the Atlantic Ocean. Its economy was based on salt and access to the sea. The town was fortified between 1630 and 1640 by Cardinal Richelieu as a Catholic bastion in order to fight against the neighbouring Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14983276437707717836noreply@blogger.com35tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6030683405193215649.post-33984550376731004582017-05-03T16:10:00.003+02:002017-05-03T19:52:17.039+02:00Delilah by Jen KingwellDelilah is the name of Jen Kingwell's TOM for 2017. Some of you are probably still wondering what a TOM is.
You all know what a BOM stands for : a Block of the Month.
A TOM is very similar. It is a kind of BOM where templates are provided. That's why it is called a TOM : Templates of the month.
The first month I received 4 templates with all the information on how to use them both for hand andDavidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14983276437707717836noreply@blogger.com25tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6030683405193215649.post-80702829820060562002017-04-24T18:27:00.004+02:002017-04-24T18:50:48.328+02:00Down the Rabbit HoleWhat a strange title, you might think!
It is the name of Sarah Fielke's 2017 BOM.
Sarah Fielke wrote a book called Old Quilts, New Life, where she created 2 modern interpretations of antique quilts from The American Folk Art Museun, New York.
I have decided to work the other way around, that is to work on a contemporary design with reproduction fabrics and just a few modern ones here and Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14983276437707717836noreply@blogger.com24tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6030683405193215649.post-44410314293136300132017-02-09T12:52:00.001+01:002017-02-09T14:32:07.037+01:00The hussif.
I have just finished an hussif which is a kind of portable sewing pouch to keep my needles, pins, scissors and many other things close at hand when sewing. It has a cushion for the pins, can be placed over the arm of the armchair, folds neatly and is attached with a strap and magnetic button. This is the kind of sewing accesorry I love.
The pattern is from Sarah Fielke. As you know if you are a regular reader of my blog, last year I attended two classes with Yoko Saito. It will be Thanksgiving tomorrow and even though this is not a celebration in France, I always enjoy this time of year and remember to be thankful for the people in my life, my family and friends who surround me in good and difficult times.
Thanksgiving also marks the beginning of the holiday season. I work full time, I am also busy at home and do a lot of sports but handquilting is a little time for myself every evening. When it's the weekend, then I allow myself some more time for quilting.
It has a least three benefits :
1. A top is magnified and will soon be a quilt and will leave its UFO friends. I had organized this class earlier in the year with Alexia Rosfelder who teaches traditional Amish hand quilting on a frame.

... a little bit of embroidery...
... fabrics galore...
... a sheep for the country atmosphere...
... some flowers...
... and pieced blocks...

Final post. The quilt show was, this year again, fantastic. There are many more things I could have shared with you.
If my photos were not blurred, I would have shared the Mountmellick exhibition. There were so many different versions of the same quilt. I paid special attention to the handquilting for inspiration.

Linda Collins and Linda KoenigYou do know how much I love traditional quilts. I have been following Linda Collins quilt journey through the reports in Quiltmania and through blogs. I had not met her last year and was happy that she was back and with a book and several quilts.

Jane Lury antique quilt collection exhibition
Nantes 2016 was FABULOUS. Writing about it would have taken me days that's why I have decided to post mainly photos. You will notice that they are several close-ups. The reason is that I focused on many details to remember them.
The Antique quilts in the Jane Lury exhibition were breathtaking. It is really moving to see such pieces.
Enjoy the photos.

The Japanese quilts were extraordinary. The workmanship to make thess quilts is incredible. If you want to pay attention to details, you can spend the four days looking for them and you will not have seen them all!! As for the handquilting, I have no words to describe it. It is definitely humbling to see such beautiful quilts.

That's a pretty good definition for what I have in mind. I quilt because there are designs that inspire me. One of the reasons why I love to attend a class with a designer is because they inspire me. It is not only what Davidhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14983276437707717836noreply@blogger.com32
